Who will manage the Partnership and how?
The Partnership has begun as a programme of NEPAD, where the small management team will be placed. The NEPAD will provide strong political links to the AU Commission, to the Ministerial Task Force for African Fisheries and the Regional Economic Communities and other pan-African and regional organisations. It is anticipated that during 2010 the programme will become a Fund with the initial Steering Committee replaced by a Board to provide strategic direction.
The Fund will enable a greater range of financial partners to work with the Partnership. The UK government’s Department for International Development has worked with the NEPAD in the conceptualisation of the Programme and has committed substantial funding to the first five years. Strong support and financial commitment has also been given by governments, NGO’s and the private sector.
